ABOUT THE GIFT OF POWER
Responding to the urgent need to spread the knowledge of life-saving self-defense techniques that ordinary women can use to fend off and escape violent physical attackers,
the mission of the Gift of Power is to provide an array of educational materials and resources – including hand-on, in-person self-defense instruction – to empower documented victims of rape, physical attacks and/or domestic violence.
Founded by noted martial artist master, author and former Elvis Presley bodyguard David A. Hebler in December 2003, The Gift of Power is a non-profit organization falling under the auspices of The National Heritage Foundation, a Falls Church, Virginia-based umbrella entity that oversees more then 9,000 charitable projects throughout the U.S. and abroad.
As such, The Gift of Power is classified as a non-profit 501(C) (3), 509(A) (1) entity under the National Heritage Foundation, federal tax status I.D. 58-2085326, and thus, has tax-exempt status, with charitable contributions being tax-deductible.
“The Gift of Power is a project close to my heart – an endeavor 47 years in the making,” reflects Hebler, now in his late 60’s. “I have dreamed of launching a charity like this through most of martial arts career. This is the project I want to go out with; the venture that I hope will live on beyond my death and help thousands, perhaps even millions, of women like my two daughters learn how to empower and protect themselves. It is my legacy.”
